01Biography
Updated Oct 2026
Rotterdam trade arbitrator with thirty-five years in vegetable oils, grain and dry-bulk disputes.
Pieter started in the claims department of a Rotterdam vegetable-oil trader in 1985 and has never left the trade: first as counsel, since 2000 as arbitrator. He has sat in well over two hundred FOSFA and GAFTA references and in a long line of LMAA dry-bulk disputes.
He is one of the few arbitrators who has personally sampled a cargo hold and still prefers hearings where the documents are on the table.
